The conference created a platform for delegates from both private and government sectors to learn how to manage businesses during crisis. The conference provided a framework for the delegates to thrive in a tight market.
The Speakers/ Topics:
Michel Gagne has developed a proprietary Masterclass High Performance Programme which he uses to coach executives at Dell, F&N, SonyEricsson and Intel on an Achievers Mindset. He is the current mental strength coach to Dato’ Nicol David.
Michel talked about the lessons we can learn from history and how leaders in the past have reacted. He touched on (1) being visible and available, (2) communicating supportively, carefully and regularly,
(3) controlling one’s behavior and reactions, (4) giving the situation perspective to create alignment.
Peter Wyss has worked with large multinational companies involved in engineering for 10 years – 4 years with Ascom (Switzerland) and 6 years with Siemens (Switzerland). His certification as NLP practitioner and as a Professional Coach enables him to understand the needs of business as well as the individual.
Peter touched on the aspects of what creates a good leader (ie the belief system, the attitude, mindset and behavior) which will lead to great results.
Mej (Dr) Faiz Khaleed was selected as one of the two Malaysian Astronauts to undergo rigorous training as a Research Cosmonaut at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Moscow, Russia. His experience during this training has held him in good stead as a leader who is focused and aware of the needs of others.
Mej (Dr) Faiz then touched on the mental and physical aspects of preparedness when it come to facing crisis. How building up your personal mental toughness allows you to make the correct decisions under pressure. He gave exmples of his time during the astronaut training while in Moscow enduring extreme weather and high G-forces during their exercises.
Dato’ Dr Sheikh Omar retired from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2001 as a professor and dean. He has spoken in the last 20 years at numerous public and private corporations throughout Malaysia and Asia. Some of his notable clients are Maxis, Bank Rakyat, CCM, Felda Holdings, IJM, Bayer, Pfizer, Leong Hup and Cargill
Dato' Dr Sheikh is a shared on how a coaching mindset of always walking the floor and listening to peoples ideas is now the only means of creating high performing teams. He truly inspired the audience with his ideas and indeed they wanted him to expound more on the subject.
Everyone left the conference with a sense of confidence with knowledge from our 4 distinguished speakers of how they have handled crisis situations and how they too could implement it into their own organisations to cope with the impending crisis.
The icing on the cake was the Official Launch of The Oxford Centre for Leadership Johor Bahru Representative Office at the courtyard outside. This launch included the symbolic release of 9 doves, which represent the 9 OXCEL Qualities of Leadership.
